General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

After a workplace accident and necessary care, several administrative steps involve the employee and the employer.

The employer must be informed on the day of the accident or within 24 hours. This period does not run in cases of force majeure, absolute impossibility or legitimate reason, such as hospitalisation.

If notification cannot be given at the accident site, Service Public says to send it by registered letter. Describe the location, circumstances and any witnesses.

A doctor records the injuries and prepares a medical certificate. Sick leave is issued only if the doctor considers it necessary.

Once informed, the employer reports the accident to the social security body within 48 hours, excluding Sundays and public holidays. If the employer does not report it, the employee can do so within two years.

Ask the employer for the accident form and retain the records. The report and medical certificate enable the insurer to assess whether the accident is work-related.
