General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Whistling or buzzing without an external sound may be tinnitus, perceived in one ear, both ears or the head rather than the surroundings.

Note the onset, interruptions and circumstances. Describe any rhythm following your heartbeat, without using that observation to determine the cause yourself.

Seek advice if the sound persists, worsens or disrupts daily life. Explain its effects on sleep or concentration with a concrete example.

Seek immediate assessment for pulsating tinnitus, sudden onset or rapid change. Also seek immediate assessment for tinnitus following a head injury, or starting suddenly with hearing loss, dizziness or altered consciousness. Tinnitus lasting under ten days with an unusual headache also needs immediate assessment.

The ENT specialist looks for a cause and evaluates the impact through an examination and hearing measurement. Imaging is not required in every case.

Ask about the findings and follow-up after assessment. Mon bilan prévention remains separate and does not replace the medical care you need.
