General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.
During alcohol withdrawal, hallucinations, disorientation, intense tremor or major balance problems may signal severe withdrawal. These signs require urgent hospital care.
If you are concerned about dependence or withdrawal symptoms, prepare stopping with your doctor or an addiction-care professional. Drinking every day does not, on its own, diagnose dependence.
For the discussion, record how often and how much you drink, other substances or medicines, difficulties you experience and your goal. The professional also assesses effects on your health and daily life.
Withdrawal can cause anxiety, sweating, tremor, sleep problems or nausea. Tell the doctor: support should prevent complications and fit your situation, without improvising a stopping programme or medicines.
Your doctor may refer you to an addiction consultation or a French addiction care, support and prevention centre, known as a CSAPA. A team can provide medical, psychological and social support.
Support goes beyond the first days without alcohol. Ongoing follow-up helps you find a new balance, work through difficulties and sustain the chosen approach after withdrawal.
