General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Contaminated food can cause foodborne illness. The cold chain matters from the moment you shop; putting food in the refrigerator continues that care at home.

Buy chilled and frozen products at the end of your shopping. Use an insulated bag and keep transport time short before putting them away.

Read the storage conditions and use-by date on the packaging. Ask the seller for these details when buying food cut or portioned for you.

Find the coldest zone using your refrigerator’s instructions. Its door and vegetable drawer are unsuitable places for the foods that are most sensitive.

Cooling does not replace hygiene: clean the refrigerator, utensils and worktop. Wash your hands before preparing meals as part of the same routine.

Before your next meal, check packaging and storage arrangements. Write down any missing instructions to ask about, rather than inventing a storage time yourself.
