General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Crying can exhaust even an attentive parent. Check hunger, the nappy and discomfort without treating the crying as deliberate misbehaviour.

When anger builds, lay your baby safely on their back in their cot. Leave the room for a few minutes to regain your calm.

Call someone trustworthy to take over. Tell your doctor about exhaustion too; seeking support helps protect your child.

Never shake a baby, even to try to wake them. If you fear you might do so, call 119 in France for help.

If your baby has been shaken, or you suspect this, call 15 or 112 immediately in France. Do not wait for symptoms to appear; follow the emergency team’s instructions.

Before someone looks after your baby, explain that they must never shake the baby. Choose only a trusted caregiver who does not react violently.
