General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Urodynamic tests may be prescribed to explore urinary function. Where needed, they complement the discussion, examination and other investigations. The term is neither a disease name nor a compulsory list of tests for everyone with frequent urination or leakage.

Uroflowmetry involves urinating into a device that measures urinary flow. It provides information about the volume passed and characteristics of the stream. The doctor considers these measurements alongside your symptoms; one number does not explain everything.

The assessment can also evaluate how much urine remains in the bladder after urination. This residual urine is different information from the volume passed. Ask the professional to show you both measurements on the report to avoid confusing them.

Cystometry records pressure in the bladder when empty and during filling. Urethral pressure profilometry measures pressures in the urethra. Depending on the assessment selected, electromyography may also examine muscle activity.

These measurements describe function; they differ from images obtained by a camera inside the bladder. Ask which parts of the assessment are planned for you and which instructions to follow. Additional tests are selected according to the clinical situation.

For the appointment to discuss results, keep the report and describe your symptoms and current treatments. Clarify how the measurements affect the next steps, which professional coordinates the results and when the next contact is planned.
