General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.
A particle forcefully striking the eye, particularly metal or wood, requires urgent ophthalmic assessment. Do not wait for a prevention appointment.
Speed matters: some particles enter the eyeball. They cannot be handled like an eyelash on its surface.
Severe pain, blurred vision, an embedded object or an eye wound also require urgent assessment. Describe the task and material involved.
Do not try to extract an object with tweezers or rigid tools. An awkward attempt can worsen injury.
Before grinding, sawing or other particle-producing work, prepare eye protection suited to the risk. At work, this complements measures to reduce the hazard.
Read the protector’s instructions and check its condition. INRS distinguishes stated performance from real working conditions: protection does not make every task risk-free.
