General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.
A club or organisation is asking for a medical certificate? Before booking, ask for the precise purpose, the intended recipient and the law or internal rule behind the request.
France’s Assurance Maladie explains that some certificate requests have no regulatory requirement behind them. Clarify what is actually required in your circumstances instead of assuming that every administrative step needs a certificate.
For an adult practising a sport, the requirements depend partly on how the activity is organised. Ask the club or federation whether a certificate is required, for which discipline and with what wording, particularly for competition.
For a work-related request, ask which document is expected and who should issue it. Assurance Maladie explains that establishing unfitness for the position is the occupational physician’s role, rather than a certificate from your usual doctor.
When a certificate is necessary, issuing it requires a medical examination. Bring the request and any instructions from the organisation: the doctor needs to know what they are being asked to assess rather than simply sign a supplied form.
If the request remains vague, ask the organisation to clarify it before the appointment. Keep its reply, the activity, the expected wording and the deadline together so that you can present a precise request to the doctor.
