General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Organised colorectal cancer screening invites women and men aged 50 to 74 every two years. The test looks for blood in the stool that cannot be seen.

Before doing it, tell the professional about symptoms and your personal or family medical history. Some circumstances require specific follow-up rather than this routine screening test.

A kit can be obtained from a doctor, pharmacist or nurse, or ordered online using the invitation. Confirm the appropriate route and ask for an explanation of the instructions.

At home, follow the instructions for the single sample, complete the identification form and use the envelope provided. Ameli recommends posting it within 24 hours of collection.

Check how results will arrive: providing your phone number enables access through a text-message link; otherwise they are posted. Ask whom to contact if no result arrives.

A positive result requires a colonoscopy arranged with your doctor; it does not automatically mean cancer. After a negative result, still consult if bleeding or another unusual sign develops.
