General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

To store a medicine at home, start with its box and leaflet. Find the section about storage and check any special precautions printed on the packaging for that particular product.

If the leaflet is missing, search for the medicine’s name in France’s public medicines database. Check that the entry matches your box, then open the patient information leaflet rather than another product’s information.

Keep each medicine in its original packaging with the leaflet, out of children’s reach. Check the expiry date as well: an orderly cupboard makes these routine checks easier to carry out.

Follow the product’s own conditions. A hot or humid location can be unsuitable; refrigeration is appropriate only when the instructions require it. Ask for an explanation if any storage instruction is unclear.

If storage conditions were exceeded, note the circumstances, duration and temperature if known. Ask a pharmacist: can this box still be used, and what precautions are needed now in this situation?

These pointers concern storage, a separate topic from returning unused medicines. You can also explore our Mon bilan prévention information page if you wish.
