General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.
After school back screening, a result flagging a concern does not by itself establish a diagnosis. Scoliosis or another spinal deformity may be suspected; a more detailed medical examination is then recommended.
Contact the doctor who follows your child. When requesting the appointment, explain that it follows French Health Insurance screening at school and keep the result to explain the referral.
Scoliosis can progress during growth without the child complaining. Absence of pain therefore does not remove the need for recommended follow-up after screening; examination of the back forms part of medical follow-up.
The doctor examines the back and posture, looks for asymmetry and assesses the stage of growth. If scoliosis is detected, X-rays can confirm the diagnosis, measure the curves and monitor change.
If a problem is confirmed, the doctor prescribes necessary care or refers to a specialist. Monitoring depends on growth and changes over time; a school result does not allow you to choose treatment yourself.
If screening recommended no follow-up, remain attentive to your child's development. Discuss any later concern or back problem with their doctor; if follow-up was proposed, ask about arrangements and the next review.
