General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.
After decay has reached the pulp, root-canal treatment addresses the inside of the tooth. It does not by itself rebuild all the lost visible structure, so the plan may include another restoration stage.
During canal treatment, the dentist removes the affected pulp tissue and cleans and disinfects the root canals. The canals are then filled to seal them; the procedure is performed with radiographic checks.
Rebuilding the tooth follows according to its condition. Ameli describes a prosthetic crown after pulpectomy. Ask which restoration has been chosen for your tooth and why it is appropriate.
If much of the tooth has been destroyed, a reconstruction anchored in one or more roots may support the future crown. This extra stage depends on remaining tooth structure and the practitioner’s assessment.
Do not confuse filling the canals with completing every planned stage. Clarify which procedures are already finished and which appointments are still needed to rebuild the tooth.
Before leaving the practice, ask how to look after this tooth between visits and whom to contact if a problem arises. Keep the restoration appointment: eased pain does not rebuild lost dental tissue.
