General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

After every eye injection, contact your ophthalmologist urgently for pain or increasing discomfort, redness, blurred or reduced vision, sensitivity to light or an increase in floaters. Do not wait for the next scheduled check.

In already diagnosed wet AMD, anti-VEGF medicines may be injected into the eye to slow new blood vessels and reduce swelling. Treatment can stabilise or improve vision without permanently curing the condition.

An intravitreal injection uses a very fine needle after local anaesthetic eye drops. Aseptic precautions are needed to reduce the rare risk of infection inside the eye.

On the day of the procedure, do not apply makeup to your eyes or face. Wash or disinfect your hands before using eye drops. Ask the team about any other instructions relevant to your situation.

Your ophthalmologist decides the injection schedule and follow-up examinations for your situation. Ask when the next check is planned and how the team will assess the effect of treatment.

Before leaving, write down the urgent contact number after the procedure and ask what to do if the practice is closed. Keep prescriptions and your next appointment accessible so you can continue planned follow-up.
