General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

A positive skin test alone does not explain every patch. The allergist compares the result with the examination and exposures to determine whether the identified substance is responsible for your eczema.

In contact eczema, a reaction can appear twenty-four to forty-eight hours after renewed contact with a substance to which the skin is sensitised. This delay can make the source difficult to recognise.

When the responsible allergen is identified, avoiding skin contact helps prevent recurrence. Ask the doctor, if possible, for a written list of products that may contain it and keep it with your results.

The same substance can occur in several products. Bring packaging for toiletries, medicines applied to the skin or products used in your activities so a professional can help check which are relevant.

If complete avoidance is impossible, suitable protection can reduce contact. For the hands, ask which gloves suit the product and keep them dry inside. A barrier cream does not provide lasting protection against the allergen.

Keeping skin moisturised and using gentle cleansers helps maintain the skin barrier. If lesions return despite the agreed measures or the products to avoid remain uncertain, contact the doctor to review exposures and care.
