General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.
After a diagnosed lateral ankle sprain, rehabilitation is a first-line treatment. It is tailored to the injury and the activities you want to resume.
The physiotherapist works on mobility, stabilising muscles and then balance as pain allows. They adapt progression; do not copy another person’s exercises.
Ask your doctor before returning to sport. Pain and mobility matter: the number of days since the injury cannot determine readiness on its own.
Report an ankle that gives way when walking or running. Persistent instability increases the risk of further sprains; have your recovery reassessed.
If pain and swelling make the first examination difficult, the doctor may re-examine the ankle after three to five days to clarify the injury.
At your next appointment, describe the sport or work you want to resume and remaining difficulties. Clarify permitted exercises, progression and the next review.
