General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Osteoporosis weakens bones and may remain silent. A fracture after a low-energy injury, such as a fall from standing height, can prompt assessment.

It differs from osteoarthritis, which affects joint cartilage. Joint pain does not tell you how strong your bones are.

Describe previous fractures, how they happened and any loss of height. Some vertebral fractures cause little pain; the doctor assesses this information.

A bone-density scan is not a routine test for everyone. The doctor decides whether it is useful according to risk factors.

After assessment, clarify the aim of preventing further fractures and the follow-up schedule. Keep the consultations and checks agreed with the medical team.

Do not choose a supplement yourself or change prescribed treatment. A recent injury needs appropriate care first; prevention of future fractures comes afterwards.
