Contact with someone who has flu: whom to ask if you are vulnerable?

Describe close contact and a chronic condition to the doctor promptly. Do not decide the next step using leftover medicine.

General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

If you are vulnerable and have had close contact with someone who has flu, seek prompt advice from your doctor. They assess the risk and appropriate measures; you do not need to wait until you are very ill to explain the exposure.

Flu spreads in particular through secretions released when a person speaks, coughs or sneezes. Sharing a home or close face-to-face contact helps describe the exposure. That account does not prove that you have become infected.

In certain risk situations, the doctor may consider antiviral treatment after exposure. This requires medical assessment: do not take leftover medicine from an earlier illness or share it to try to prevent flu.

Say when contact occurred, whether symptoms have started and which conditions or medicines are already being managed. Elapsed time can matter to the medical decision. These practical details prepare the call; they do not select a treatment or a waiting period.

If symptoms develop, report them to the professional, especially during pregnancy or with a chronic condition or immunosuppression. Call 15 or 112 for severe breathing difficulty, blue lips or confusion.

Vaccination and other prevention measures can be discussed for your circumstances, but should not delay advice after a concerning exposure. The Mon bilan prévention page describes the prevention service; a prevention appointment does not replace this prompt medical assessment.
