General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Distinguish a disease from its cause: flu involves Influenza viruses, while Covid-19 is caused by SARS-CoV-2. Information about one therefore does not automatically describe the other.

For flu, A names a type. A(H3N2) and A(H1N1)pdm09 are subtypes, used in the 7 October 2026 bulletin. Here they illustrate classification, without announcing a dominant virus in Mulhouse.

For SARS-CoV-2, variants and subvariants describe forms arising as the virus changes. This terminology differs from flu types and subtypes.

Sequencing helps characterise viruses and track the spread of variants. Santé publique France describes this use in the SEQ4EPI project; its historical results are not a current variant list.

Check the information’s date and area. A circulation statement in a 2025 page retains that context: it cannot establish which variant dominates in 2026.

When asking for an explanation, note the exact name, source and date. These names alone do not determine your diagnosis or how serious your condition is. Symptoms need separate medical advice.
