General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.
For 2026-2027, Assurance Maladie recommends preferential use of a high-dose or adjuvanted flu vaccine for people aged 65 and over. A professional may therefore discuss the formulation, beyond the question of receiving vaccination itself.
HAS explains that ageing of the immune system can reduce the vaccine response and that observed effectiveness is lower in older people. Enhanced formulations aim to improve this response in a population more exposed to serious consequences of flu.
The two approaches differ: a high-dose vaccine supplies more antigen; an adjuvanted vaccine contains a substance that supports the immune response. This does not mean adding viral lineages or deciding on extra injections yourself.
HAS gives high-dose and adjuvanted vaccines equivalent positions in the strategy. The evidence reviewed does not establish that either approach is consistently more effective than the other.
Preferential does not mean exclusive: standard vaccines remain usable in this strategy, as the current Assurance Maladie page also explains. The recommendation therefore does not mean that a standard vaccine is unsuitable for everyone of this age.
Ask the professional which formulation is being considered and why it suits your situation. Prepare your vaccination history and medical points to check; the professional choice cannot be reduced to the word ‘enhanced’ in general information.

Flu and Covid-19: the 2026–2027 campaign
The national flu and Covid-19 vaccination campaign starts on 13 October 2026. In Doctolib, choose “Vaccination antigrippale (Grippe)” or “Vaccination COVID-19” for the vaccination you want to discuss.
Bring your carte Vitale and, for flu, your coverage voucher if you have one. The professional checks the recommendations and coverage conditions that apply to you.
The pharmacy checks whether vaccination and coverage apply based on the vaccine, your age and your circumstances.
