Flu vaccination for healthcare work: recommendation or legal requirement?

Distinguish vaccination recommendations from HAS’s July 2026 proposal for a requirement. Ask occupational health which rules apply to your work.

General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Ameli recommends flu vaccination for health professionals and other workers in contact with people at risk of severe disease. Your role and the people you meet are relevant to this recommendation.

This prevention protects the professional and helps limit transmission to vulnerable people. It complements other precautions; it does not guarantee that a vaccinated person can never transmit influenza.

In its publication of 20 July 2026, HAS proposes gradually introducing an annual requirement for the relevant health and social-care professionals. It recommends prioritising care homes for older people and long-term care units.

This publication is HAS’s recommendation to introduce a requirement. By itself, it does not establish that a regulation has made it applicable to your employment. A proposal should not be treated as a rule already in force.

Ask occupational health or the responsible service which rules and recommendations concern your work. Explain your role, institution and contact with vulnerable people rather than rely on a news headline alone.

For vaccination, confirm the timing, professional’s scope and documents needed. If pharmacy vaccination is appropriate, select “Vaccination antigrippale (Grippe)”. Booking a vaccination does not resolve an employment-law question.

Flu and Covid-19: the 2026–2027 campaign

The national flu and Covid-19 vaccination campaign starts on 13 October 2026. In Doctolib, choose “Vaccination antigrippale (Grippe)” or “Vaccination COVID-19” for the vaccination you want to discuss.

Bring your carte Vitale and, for flu, your coverage voucher if you have one. The professional checks the recommendations and coverage conditions that apply to you.

The pharmacy checks whether vaccination and coverage apply based on the vaccine, your age and your circumstances.
