General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

The early prenatal interview is a listening appointment with a midwife or doctor. It lets you express expectations, worries and difficulties during pregnancy, beyond a list of examinations to complete.

You may attend alone or as a couple, and it forms part of mandatory pregnancy follow-up in France. It can take place from the fourth month or at a time agreed with the professional; you can still ask for it if you have not had it.

You can discuss medical, psychological or social support needs and start talking about your birth plan. Questions about welcoming the baby and returning home also belong in this conversation.

Prepare the points you want to raise, such as a recurring worry or an organisational difficulty. The professional can identify with you the support needed during pregnancy and after birth.

Depending on your needs, referral to another professional may be proposed, such as a specialist, psychologist or social worker. This interview sits within a pathway that also includes medical visits and preparation for birth.

Before the appointment, write down your priorities and the help already available around you. At the end, clarify suggested contacts, the next step and whom to contact if a referral does not progress, so support becomes practical.
