General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Temporary accommodation allows a person with a disability, whatever their age, to stay for a limited time in a setting suited to their needs.

It can help during a transition between support arrangements or when usual support is temporarily interrupted. It can also provide a break for relatives and professionals who normally support the person.

Under the ordinary procedure, apply for placement to the MDPH in the department where you live, online if offered or using a paper form. Prepare the supporting documents and describe the person’s needs and the context of the stay.

The disability rights and autonomy commission examines the application. If it grants placement, its letter lists establishments to contact; the decision does not reserve a place.

The applicant or their representative contacts chosen establishments to check registration and sends a copy of the decision. Discuss communication and support needs and routines that matter during the stay.

Duration is limited to ninety days per calendar year. In an emergency, direct admission may be possible with a disability rate of at least 80%, for a stay shorter than eight days for a child or fifteen days for an adult. Ask the facility and MDPH whether this exception applies; the director must notify the commission within twenty-four hours and subsequently send an assessment of the stay.
