General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Impetigo is a contagious bacterial skin infection, often seen in children.

Crusts or blisters may appear; their appearance alone does not establish your diagnosis.

Wash hands before and after care and avoid sharing towels with other people.

Keep nails short and discourage scratching to avoid spreading lesions elsewhere.

Seek prompt medical advice for a baby under six months, blisters or rapid spread.

In other situations, arrange a doctor or paediatrician appointment. If impetigo is confirmed, also inform the school or nursery.
