General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

After acute or chronic pancreatitis, a cystic collection can develop. In some situations the team proposes cystogastrostomy to drain it.

The gastroenterologist locates the collection by endoscopic ultrasound and creates an opening through the stomach wall. Fluid can then drain into the stomach.

A plastic or metal stent keeps the opening in place during drainage. Ask which device is planned and what the procedure is intended to achieve in your case.

Depending on the indication, the stent may be removed after drainage or left in place to reduce recurrence of the collection. Ask who decides the next step and when it will be reviewed.

Lyon university hospitals perform this procedure under general anaesthesia. Report all medicines and health conditions during preparation and ask for fasting and return-home instructions specific to your procedure.

Bleeding is one of the risks. Before discharge, ask which signs to report and whom to contact. After digestive endoscopy, abdominal pain or fever requires prompt medical contact. If you vomit blood, call 15 or 112 in France without delay.
