Finding French difficult in a consultation: preparing for a healthcare interpreter

A professional interpreter supports accurate, confidential communication. State your preferred language and check the available arrangements before the discussion.

General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Finding medical French difficult? Before the discussion, state the language in which you can explain your questions, including when preparing for a vaccination.

A professional interpreter conveys what is said accurately without deciding for you. They respect confidentiality, impartiality and your independence in making decisions.

A relative can support you, but relying on them for all interpretation, especially a child, can make personal expression and privacy more difficult.

Ask how interpretation can be arranged. A request does not establish that an interpreter will be available at the pharmacy or that their service will be covered.

During the discussion, speak directly to the healthcare professional in short sections. The interpreter conveys questions and answers; ask for clarification if a term remains unclear.

An interpreter’s involvement requires your agreement. If you still do not understand the explanation, say so before deciding with the clinician; the choice remains yours.

Flu and Covid-19: the 2026–2027 campaign

The national flu and Covid-19 vaccination campaign starts on 13 October 2026. In Doctolib, choose “Vaccination antigrippale (Grippe)” or “Vaccination COVID-19” for the vaccination you want to discuss.

Bring your carte Vitale and, for flu, your coverage voucher if you have one. The professional checks the recommendations and coverage conditions that apply to you.

The pharmacy checks whether vaccination and coverage apply based on the vaccine, your age and your circumstances.
