General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

A blood pressure drop on standing can cause faintness. But loss of consciousness has several causes: the circumstances alone do not establish the diagnosis.

The doctor may check for a blood pressure drop related to position. A usual seated reading does not replace this professional assessment.

Describe standing up or standing for a long time, repeated episodes and any fall. Also mention a recent illness involving dehydration.

From age 65, some medicines can contribute to faintness and falls. Report all treatments and any recent prescription change.

Do not stop blood pressure treatment or change its dose yourself. The doctor reassesses the situation and treatments.

If someone loses consciousness and remains unconscious, or is breathing abnormally, call 15 or 112 immediately.
