General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Marked tiredness, sore throat, fever and swollen neck glands can suggest mononucleosis without identifying it conclusively. This Epstein-Barr virus infection spreads in particular through saliva and can cause more noticeable symptoms in adolescents.

Seek assessment if you think you have it or your child has this pattern. The doctor examines the throat, glands and abdomen. Blood tests may confirm infection and assess its effects when appropriate. Do not request antibiotics based only on how the throat looks.

Severe breathing difficulty or an inability to swallow requires urgent care. Severe pain on the left side of the abdomen below the ribs can also be an emergency sign. Call 15 or 112 for respiratory distress or to obtain urgent guidance rather than waiting for a prevention assessment.

Mononucleosis can make the spleen more vulnerable. Ameli advises stopping physical exertion, particularly lifting loads and contact sports, during the illness. Ask the doctor when returning is appropriate; feeling more energetic is not clearance.

Rest and regular drinks support recovery. Avoid sharing glasses or kissing to limit saliva contact. Do not decide on your own a date after which transmission would be impossible.

For follow-up, explain tiredness, ability to drink and swallow, and activities you want to resume. Contact the doctor again if your condition worsens or is not improving. General prevention questions come after this care.
