A French two-zone prescription: why keep both sections readable?

The two sections separate care linked to an exempting ALD from other care. A line’s position alone does not guarantee full reimbursement.

General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

A two-zone prescription, or ordonnance bizone, is used for an exempting affection de longue durée (ALD). Its upper section contains prescriptions related to that ALD; the lower section contains unrelated prescriptions.

The doctor separates prescriptions according to their relationship with the ALD. If you do not understand a medicine’s position, ask the doctor to clarify the prescription.

Keep and present the document with both sections visible. A copy cropped below the upper section may hide other prescriptions and leave the document incomplete.

The boundary between sections must remain clear, even when several items are prescribed. If a line crosses that boundary or seems ambiguous, ask the prescriber to clarify the prescription.

The upper section does not guarantee that nothing remains payable. Under ALD coverage, medicines assessed as having low medical benefit remain reimbursed at 15%; statutory deductions or other costs may also remain.

Ask for the coverage of each item to be explained. The ticket Vitale, printed by the pharmacist on the back of the prescription, shows each medicine’s price and reimbursement rate.
