General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.
If a prescription for chronic treatment has expired, ask the pharmacist to assess an exceptional additional supply to avoid a harmful interruption. The pharmacist checks the scheme’s conditions for your prescription.
The prescription must be renewable, its validity expired, and the initial prescription allow a total treatment duration of at least three months. An old prescription alone does not establish that these conditions are met.
The first exceptional supply must occur within the month following the prescription’s expiry. Contact the pharmacy before running out so the deadline can be checked and next steps organised with the prescriber.
Supplies are successive, for one month each, up to a total limit of three months. This scheme does not mean receiving three months at once; the pharmacist takes the initial prescription into account.
Some medicines are excluded, including controlled narcotics, medicines subject to their regulations and those with a legally limited prescription duration. Have the exact medicine checked instead of assuming eligibility yourself.
Present the paper or electronic prescription. The pharmacist records the supply and informs the prescriber through a confidential channel. Also arrange medical renewal: this temporary continuity does not replace treatment follow-up.
