General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.
A secure prescription, or ordonnance sécurisée, meets specific formal requirements. Medicines containing tramadol or codeine require this type of prescription; have the actual document supplied assessed.
For these medicines, the prescriber must write the strength, dosing instructions and treatment duration in words. Have these entries checked without adding them yourself.
Identify the copy that can be used for dispensing. A sheet marked “Duplicata ne permettant pas la délivrance de médicaments” is intended for health insurance; keep and present the patient’s copy.
To prepare for dispensing, show the document to the pharmacist so they can check its format and required information. If a correction is needed, ask the prescriber for a compliant document.
For tramadol or codeine, prescribing duration is limited and extending treatment requires a new prescription. Have the recorded date and duration checked before preparing the next steps.
If required wording or a document is missing, ask what the prescriber needs to correct. Their contact details appear on the prescription so the pharmacist can contact them if needed.
