Missed a medicine: find the instructions for that treatment

What to do after a missed dose depends on the medicine. Prepare the timings and ask for advice rather than invent a catch-up rule.

General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

A missed dose is not managed the same way for every medicine. The response depends on the treatment and its own instructions; advice for another product is insufficient.

Find the complete medicine name, formulation and prescription. Locate its leaflet section about a missed dose, and ask for an explanation if it does not clearly cover your situation.

For specific advice, give the usual time, the last dose you definitely took and when you noticed the omission. Mention repeated omissions or uncertainty about whether a dose was already taken.

Do not invent a rule for catching up, doubling or postponing a dose. Contact a pharmacist or doctor to establish which instructions apply and how to return to that treatment’s schedule.

If omissions recur, ask for help creating a clear medicine plan. An alarm or daily routine may help; check that the reminder respects any timing requirements of your medicines.

Keep the explained instructions with your treatment plan and share them with whoever helps you, if needed. If concerning symptoms develop, seek medical advice without waiting for a prevention consultation.
