General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.
A pacemaker helps prevent the heart from beating too slowly. Implantation is followed by monitoring: how you feel alone cannot establish that the device works correctly.
Always carry the card stating that you have a pacemaker. It helps you clearly tell the professionals caring for you that the device is present.
Attend check-ups at the implantation centre or with your cardiologist. Their frequency may vary with the device’s lifespan or an identified device problem.
After implantation, monitor wound healing. Tell your doctor about fever, bleeding or inflammation around the wound; do not wait for the routine check-up to mention these.
Until the wound has healed properly, avoid heavy loads and sudden shoulder movements on the device side. Resume leisure activities after medical agreement.
At your next contact with the centre, confirm the check-up date and instructions for returning to activities. Keep your device card accessible and note wound changes to report.
