General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.
The prestation de compensation du handicap, or PCH, can help cover expenses related to loss of independence. It includes several forms of support, including another person’s help with daily activities.
To prepare the file, describe activities that have become very difficult or impossible and the help needed to perform them. Independence criteria concern serious or absolute difficulties, and their duration also matters.
Human assistance may involve a family carer who is not paid as an employee for that help, an employee or a service provider. Ask how to describe help already received and what is still needed.
Apply to the MDPH where you live, online if that service is offered or using the paper form. Check which supporting documents apply and keep copies of your documents.
PCH is awarded under conditions including independence, age and residence. There is no means test for entitlement itself, but resources affect the rate at which expenses are covered.
The MDPH commission examines the file. Ask for an explanation of the decision and of the support awarded; applying does not guarantee approval or a particular number of hours.
