General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

After the first trimester, vaginal bleeding requires immediate contact with maternity services or emergency care. Do not wait for pain or a prevention appointment.

Placenta praevia is a low placenta covering part or all of the internal cervical opening. This abnormal position can also be associated with premature birth.

The maternity team assesses blood loss and your condition. Ultrasound clarifies placental position, and the baby’s heart rate is monitored.

According to Ameli, placenta praevia or bleeding contraindicate physical activity during pregnancy. Ask the team to explain rest instructions and the limits appropriate for you.

Placental position at the end of pregnancy guides the mode of birth. A caesarean is planned if the placenta still covers the cervix at term.

Keep maternity contact details with your records. In France, 15 and 112 are free and available day and night; renewed bleeding requires immediate reassessment.
