General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Where young children spend time, Anses recommends choosing non-toxic ornamental plants and keeping risky plants away.

Ask the seller for the plant’s name and toxicity information. A decorative label alone cannot establish the precautions needed.

The risk is not limited to swallowed berries. Some sap irritates skin, mouth or eyes, particularly during pruning.

Wear gloves to handle an irritating plant such as dieffenbachia, then wash your hands. Avoid touching your eyes.

After swallowing an uncertain or toxic plant, call a poison centre even without symptoms. For life-threatening distress, call 15 or 112 in France.

After irritating contact, rinse affected areas generously with water. If irritation persists, contact a poison centre or doctor.
