General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Raw or undercooked fish can transmit parasites. This also includes marinated preparations such as ceviche.

A marinade of lemon, salt or herbs is not sufficient to kill these parasites. Appearance does not establish that fish is safe.

For raw fish prepared at home, recommendations specify seven days in a domestic freezer at −18°C.

Ask the fishmonger whether suitable treatment has already been performed. If the conditions are uncertain, choose thorough cooking.

Raw or undercooked fish is discouraged during pregnancy, for immunocompromised people and for older adults.

Parasite precautions do not replace cold-chain handling and hygiene. Decide on the preparation method before buying the fish.
