General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.
A prescription may specify a magistral preparation: a medicine prepared from a prescription intended for a specific patient. The starting point remains the medical prescription.
An officinal preparation is a different category, prepared in a pharmacy and recorded in the pharmacopoeia or national formulary. These terms describe specific pharmaceutical frameworks; they do not provide a recipe for making a medicine yourself.
A preparation is not automatically reimbursed. Ameli sets out reimbursement criteria and prescription conditions. Wording on the prescription is not sufficient if the preparation itself does not qualify for reimbursement.
Take the prescription and ask the pharmacist who will prepare and dispense the medicine and how collection will be organised. Confirm the expected timing before travelling. A prescription does not, by itself, confirm immediate preparation on the premises.
When it is dispensed, ask for the instructions specific to this preparation and keep the accompanying information. If something remains unclear, ask the team to explain it again rather than applying the instructions from a different medicine’s box.
Also ask about reimbursement conditions and what should happen if the preparation cannot be dispensed as planned. The pharmacist and prescriber remain your contacts for this process; do not make a replacement at home.
