General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Prolactin is a pituitary hormone involved in milk production. A raised level alone does not establish why it has increased.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and some medicines can raise this hormone. Show the doctor your complete medicine list without stopping treatment yourself.

A prolactinoma is a pituitary adenoma producing prolactin. It may disturb periods, cause breast discharge or affect sexual function.

Assessment depends on symptoms and hormone results. Depending on the situation, the team may request pituitary imaging and check effects on other hormones.

Medical treatment is often offered first for a prolactinoma. It aims particularly to normalise prolactin and shrink the adenoma; surgery addresses selected situations.

Plans for pregnancy deserve a dedicated discussion with the endocrinologist. Ask what is confirmed, which checks are planned and who will reassess treatment.
