After DIY work, some leftover products still pose risks to health and the environment. The household chemical waste concerned requires specific treatment: plan where it should go before clearing your DIY storage area.

Solvents and thinners are among the categories identified by the French environment ministry. Coatings, surface preparation products, adhesives and repair products may also belong to this collection stream.

This waste must be collected separately from ordinary household rubbish. The stream covers the contents and containers of the products concerned; check the packaging too, rather than sorting only the remaining liquid.

To find a route, Service Public provides a search tool for hazardous waste collection points. It includes products used for DIY, decoration, household maintenance and gardening.

Collection uses facilities including municipal waste centres and arrangements at retailers. Before travelling, confirm that your chosen point accepts the particular product and ask for its drop-off instructions; different waste types can follow different routes.

The town hall can explain local collection arrangements. Have the product name and category ready to help obtain suitable directions. Your next step is to confirm the drop-off location, without assuming that the pharmacy collects these products.
