Diagnosed aortic stenosis: what should you report between check-ups?

Follow-up still matters without symptoms. Report activities you have reduced to avoid breathlessness.

General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Aortic stenosis restricts the opening of the valve at the heart’s outlet. Once diagnosed, care needs to reflect its severity.

The condition can remain symptom-free for a long time. Lack of discomfort alone does not establish its severity: ask what your cardiac assessment shows.

Heart ultrasound assesses the narrowing and its effects on the heart. The timing of check-ups depends on the medical assessment.

Breathlessness or faintness during activity are changes to report. If they appear, seek medical advice without waiting for the scheduled check-up.

Gradually reducing activity can hide a perceived deterioration. Describe what you do less, even if you feel just as comfortable as before.

At follow-up, clarify the next check-up date, changes to report and whom to contact. Bring an example of an activity that has become harder.
