General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

For progressing scoliosis in a child or adolescent, a brace may be offered to limit worsening of the curve during growth. It is fitted to the individual and their spinal curve.

The number of hours worn affects effectiveness. Ask the team to write down your child’s exact schedule, adjustment period and when the brace may be removed.

A thin, close-fitting cotton garment without folds under the brace helps protect skin. Each time it is removed, check for redness, pain or a sore.

If the skin marks or the brace hurts, contact the doctor or orthotist to check its fit. Do not alter the device or prescribed wearing hours yourself.

Prescribed rehabilitation helps maintain movement, muscles and breathing. It complements the chosen treatment and does not by itself replace the brace to control the curve.

Keep scheduled appointments and tests even if the back seems stable. Ask which physical activities are suitable and how to manage wearing the brace at school and home.
