General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

In France, call 15 or 112 for heavy bleeding through both nostrils and into the throat; a nosebleed with pallor, faintness, sweating, a rapid pulse or heartbeat, anxiety or agitation; heavy bleeding associated with a clotting disorder, anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicine; or bleeding after serious injury.

Outside these emergencies, bleeding that persists or worsens despite compression, or recurs, requires medical assessment. After surgery, also contact your surgeon or doctor for fever, nasal pain or any worrying symptom.

After septoplasty, the team may place nasal packing for about 24 hours or silicone splints for about a week. Before going home, ask what has been placed and where and when removal or review will occur.

Ameli advises breathing through the mouth for about two weeks and drinking small sips regularly to reduce dryness of the mouth and throat. Follow the specific instructions from your surgeon.

For nasal care, rinse the nasal passages with salt water as instructed, blow your nose very gently and avoid sneezing with your mouth closed. Ask for a demonstration if the technique or product is unclear.

Avoid intense physical activity and swimming for about two weeks, then ask your surgeon for permission before resuming. Complete healing takes about two months and the final result is assessed around three months; these general figures do not replace your follow-up.
