General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.
Some respiratory forms of active tuberculosis can spread through the air from an infectious person. This disease differs from latent tuberculosis infection, which can have no symptoms and is not infectious. Not having a cough therefore does not, by itself, answer the question of latent infection.
Tuberculosis control centres, called CLAT in France, take part in case investigations. If a team identifies you as a contact and offers assessment, respond even if you feel well. Do not decide on your own that symptoms are necessary for the investigation to concern you.
Assessment is organised according to the situation and the recommendations followed by the team. Explain the contact circumstances and ask which steps are planned for you. Do not exclude yourself based on a number of hours read elsewhere; professionals determine contacts and the care pathway.
The IGRA test and tuberculin skin test are among the tools studied for latent infection. An isolated result needs interpretation within the assessment. HAS particularly notes that a positive test alone is poor at predicting whether latent infection will progress to disease.
Assessment may distinguish no infection, latent infection and active tuberculosis. These situations are not interchangeable. Ask the doctor what your result means and what comes next; a positive test does not authorise you to choose or restart a treatment on your own.
Keep the documents and instructions you receive, and clarify follow-up dates and arrangements with the team. Protocols described in a study from another French department are not your personal schedule. A general prevention discussion does not replace assessment organised after a contact.
