An authorised or recommended vaccine: what decisions differ?

General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

An authorisation announcement concerns a vaccine as a medicine. A recommendation describes its place in a prevention strategy. To understand a report, first identify which of these two decisions it is describing.

Marketing authorisation is based on an assessment of quality, effectiveness and risks. It sets the indications and precautions for use. It is not a personal recommendation that applies to every possible circumstance.

HAS also considers how common and serious the disease is in France, the exposed groups, vaccine evidence, expected population benefits and costs to the community.

The ministry develops vaccination policy and publishes the vaccination calendar. This document identifies the groups concerned. The authority assessing a medicine and the authority defining the strategy therefore have different responsibilities.

Recommendations can change with new knowledge or disease circulation. Check their date and the group concerned before relying on an older announcement for your current question.

Before vaccination, ask: “Which vaccine is being considered, and which current recommendation applies to my circumstances?” Have a professional explain both points, then prepare the appropriate vaccination pathway.

Flu and Covid-19: the 2026–2027 campaign

The national flu and Covid-19 vaccination campaign starts on 13 October 2026. In Doctolib, choose “Vaccination antigrippale (Grippe)” or “Vaccination COVID-19” for the vaccination you want to discuss.

Bring your carte Vitale and, for flu, your coverage voucher if you have one. The professional checks the recommendations and coverage conditions that apply to you.

The pharmacy checks whether vaccination and coverage apply based on the vaccine, your age and your circumstances.
