Before vaccination: understanding the information and giving consent

General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Before vaccination, the discussion is about more than checking documents. The professional should explain the procedure so that you can understand it and give consent. Prepare the questions that matter most to you.

Ask which disease the vaccination aims to prevent and what benefits are expected in your situation. Also ask about possible adverse effects. A useful explanation connects this information to the vaccination being considered, without promising perfect protection.

The words used should be understandable. If a term is unfamiliar, ask for another explanation or an example. Saying what you have understood in your own words can reveal a question still unanswered.

The discussion also checks for medical history that could change the decision to vaccinate. Mention your conditions, treatments and reactions to previous vaccinations. This medical assessment and your understanding of the procedure are two complementary parts of the conversation.

A concern does not need medical vocabulary to deserve attention. Explain what makes you hesitate and ask for the information you need, or time to understand it, before expressing your consent to the proposed vaccination.

Before the injection, check that your essential questions have been answered and that the professional knows your decision. To prepare your vaccination pathway, simply write down what still needs clarification and whom to ask for that explanation.

Flu and Covid-19: the 2026–2027 campaign

The national flu and Covid-19 vaccination campaign starts on 13 October 2026. In Doctolib, choose “Vaccination antigrippale (Grippe)” or “Vaccination COVID-19” for the vaccination you want to discuss.

Bring your carte Vitale and, for flu, your coverage voucher if you have one. The professional checks the recommendations and coverage conditions that apply to you.

The pharmacy checks whether vaccination and coverage apply based on the vaccine, your age and your circumstances.
