General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.
Menstrual symptoms have been reported after Covid vaccines. If periods become unusually heavy or you bleed between periods, have the symptoms assessed rather than immediately attributing them to the injection.
The EPI-PHARE study published in January 2024 examined hospital admissions among non-pregnant women aged 15–50 in 2021–2022. It reported an association in the one to three months after primary mRNA doses, not a rate applicable to everyone vaccinated today.
The study did not observe an increased risk after boosters in its population. This neither establishes vaccination as the cause of every bleeding episode nor guarantees that a symptom after a booster is unimportant.
Seek urgent care or call 15 in France if heavy bleeding comes with faintness or marked weakness, bleeding accompanies fever, or a missed period is followed by bleeding and lower abdominal pain.
Outside these emergencies, arrange an appointment with your doctor or midwife. Record when bleeding started, its duration and amount, medicines and contraception used, and the vaccination date to help the assessment.
Before a future injection, tell the vaccinating professional about the symptoms and their assessment. Agree the next step after evaluation; information pages and vaccination appointments do not replace care for current bleeding.
