Vulnerable loved ones: what should you ask about vaccination?

Flu and Covid-19 recommendations for close contacts differ. Use these pointers to prepare a question for a healthcare professional.

General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Do you spend time with someone who is medically vulnerable and wonder whether vaccination is recommended for you? Flu and Covid-19 guidance does not cover exactly the same situations for close contacts.

Flu recommendations include contacts of people with weakened immune systems and babies under six months who have a risk of severe flu, for example because they were born prematurely. This does not automatically include every baby’s relatives.

Covid-19 recommendations include people who live with, or have regular contact with, people who are immunocompromised or vulnerable. A healthcare professional can check how the guidance applies to your circumstances.

Vaccination complements everyday precautions. Ventilating rooms, washing hands and wearing a mask when you have symptoms or are around a vulnerable person remain ways to reduce transmission.

Prepare one straightforward question: “Which recommendation applies to me?” Discuss your own circumstances with a healthcare professional to clarify the appropriate vaccination pathway.

When choosing an appointment, use the vaccination section and the relevant appointment type. This vaccination pathway is separate from Mon bilan prévention.

Flu and Covid-19: the 2026–2027 campaign

The national flu and Covid-19 vaccination campaign starts on 13 October 2026. In Doctolib, choose “Vaccination antigrippale (Grippe)” or “Vaccination COVID-19” for the vaccination you want to discuss.

Bring your carte Vitale and, for flu, your coverage voucher if you have one. The professional checks the recommendations and coverage conditions that apply to you.

The pharmacy checks whether vaccination and coverage apply based on the vaccine, your age and your circumstances.
