General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

Vaccines differ in their composition. Some, including the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine and the chickenpox vaccine, contain a weakened live organism. This distinction matters when your immune defences are reduced.

Live vaccines are contraindicated while immunosuppression is present. Tell the professional about your condition and medicines that weaken your defences before an injection, so they can assess the particular vaccine being considered.

This does not mean abandoning all vaccination. Non-live vaccines may be recommended for some immunocompromised people. A general recommendation needs to be considered alongside your health and the care you receive.

Prepare the exact names of your medicines, vaccination documents and contact details for the doctor managing your condition. Also note any planned or recently completed treatment, to help the discussion before a date is arranged.

Ask who will confirm the vaccine choice and timing, and what information the vaccinator needs. Do not change a treatment yourself to obtain a vaccine; ask your care team to explain the next step.

Once this specialist question is clarified, keep your other prevention questions for a broader conversation. If Mon bilan prévention applies to you, its dedicated page explains the programme and helps you prepare that discussion.
