Meat and processed meat: why two separate weekly limits?

The 500 g limit for meat other than poultry and 150 g for processed meat refer to separate categories.

General information, not an individual diagnosis. Ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure about your situation.

For adults, the recommendation is to limit meat other than poultry to a maximum of 500 g per week.

This includes beef, pork, veal, mutton, lamb and offal. Pork’s pale colour does not exclude it from this limit.

Processed meat has its own ceiling: a maximum of 150 g weekly. Poultry ham also belongs to processed meats.

Count sausages, lardons, bacon, pâté and ham in this category too. Processed meat is not an everyday substitute for meat.

These ceilings are not targets to reach. Alternate with fish, eggs and pulses according to your habits.

To plan meals, record the portions you have already eaten this week. Then choose another protein source for variety.
